1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Word Salad app ("the App") or visiting this website ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App or the Site.
If you are allowing a child to use the App, you (the parent or guardian) agree to these Terms on the child's behalf and are responsible for their use of the App.
2. License to use the App
Word Salad grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on any Apple device that you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial educational purposes, subject to these Terms.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the App or its content
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the App
- Rent, lease, sell, sublicense, or otherwise transfer the App to any third party
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in any way that violates applicable laws
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the App or its infrastructure
3. Intellectual property
All content in the App and on the Site — including text, graphics, logos, icons, images, audio clips, and software — is the property of Word Salad or its content suppliers and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. All rights not expressly granted in these Terms are reserved.
The bundled spelling test collections are aligned to publicly available Singapore MOE curriculum materials. Word Salad claims no ownership over any third-party curriculum content referenced in the App.
4. User content
Word lists and test data you create in the App are stored locally on your device. You retain full ownership of any content you create. Word Salad does not access, collect, or store your word lists on its servers.
When you use the optional photo OCR feature, images are transmitted to Google's Gemini API solely for text extraction and are not stored by Word Salad. Your use of that feature is also subject to Google's Terms of Service.
5. Disclaimer of warranties
The App and the Site are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Word Salad does not warrant that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free of viruses or other harmful components. Spelling test content is provided for practice purposes only and may not always match the most current school curriculum.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Word Salad and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with:
- Your use of, or inability to use, the App or the Site
- Any content obtained from the App or the Site
- Unauthorised access to or alteration of your data
In no event shall our total liability to you exceed the amount you paid (if any) to download or use the App in the twelve months preceding the claim.
7. Third-party services
The App integrates with third-party services including Apple's text-to-speech system and Google's Gemini API. Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. Word Salad is not responsible for the practices of any third-party service.
8. Governing law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App or the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
